Last night I dreamed of rats. Rats everywhere, running across the floorboards, rats in cages and rats being cradled like babies. I dreamed my best friend Shandi had “adopted’ a rat, and me and my sister Amanda were watching it for her. Amanda was holding it up to an open window and then she accidentally dropped the rat. Naturally, I dove out the window in a panic to go rescue the doomed rodent because that would be the most logical course of action (not). I fell into a gross compost heap that was teaming with wild gray rats and started digging around until I found the only brown and white spotted rat in the pile. So bizarre. I have no idea where this rat dream originated from. I like to go on dream dictionaries and look up the meanings, even though I don’t always agree. I looked up “rat” on www.dreammoods.com/dreamdictionary and it said:

To see a rat in your dream, signifies feelings of doubts, greed, guilt, unworthiness and envy. You are keeping something to yourself that is eating you up inside. Or you have done something that you are not proud of. Alternatively, a rat denotes repulsion, decay, dirtiness, and even death. The dream may also be a pun on someone who is a rat. Are you feeling betrayed?

So yeah, not exactly the answer I was expecting but how seriously can you take a free online dream interpreter? I have had totally wacked out dreams lately; I don’t really know why. I have always been a very vivid dreamer, to the point where I always remember at least one or two details from my dreams, if not the whole dream. Sometimes they play out in my head like freaky little art films, in which I can decipher strangely poignant meanings and themes upon waking. And sometimes they are just random images and nonsensical situations that leave me asking “Whaaa?”.

Dreams are kind of like bodily functions-everyone wants to talk about them but no one really wants to listen. I personally like hearing other people’s dreams and trying to discover the meanings behind them. And sometimes they are just plain amusing. I don’t really care if people want to hear about my dreams; as long as I feel compelled to share something, I will, dang it! Maybe your eyes will start to glaze over as I describe the barren wasteland I was trekking across with my giant purple cat and my comrades, Kate Winslet and Stevie Wonder, but I will continue until you have suffered through the whole entire thing. You can call me Bobby Brown cuz that’s my prerogative.

I’m starting a series of short stories based on ideas from my dreams, and you know about my dreams ha ha ha!! “…and there was a purple pterodactyl and Tom Hanks was there and it all turned out okay.”

haha, was that actually one of them?? maybe that’s why when I was making up a random wacko dream the whole purple animal came to mind, hehe.
